As a society we have absolutely no attention span at the moment.  So instead of crafting the perfect 30-second elevator pitch, I want you to drill it down to a single sentence.

What do you do?

Hello, hello, and welcome back to the Business First Creatives podcast. If someone asked you what do you do, can you simplify it in one sentence? Now, I know we've all heard of the 30-second elevator pitch, and that's not what I'm really talking about here. As I am now expanding my offers beyond Dubsado to include other tools as well as just giving business owners clarity and strategy.

I have decided that maybe I need to figure out a way to explain what I do without naming any specific tools. So it's kind of, it's not really a rebranding, but it is like a reorganization or a thinking about what I offer in a different way. And so are you ready? This is what I came up with. If I had to summarize what I do in one statement.

"Hi, I'm Colie, I make complicated shit simple."

Now I could totally add, using systems and automations. I could totally add with automated workflows, I could totally add using Dubsado. Like there's a lot of things that I could add on to the end of that statement. And the funny thing is, I think I've come to the realization that this is, you know, what I wanna put forward because this is what I've always done. You know, decade ago, actually longer than that now, but when I used to teach developmental math and statistics to college students, I had a knack for taking things that people thought were super hard and explaining them in a way to where people finally understood what was going on.

I mean, I loved figuring out what specific part of a process or a concept someone didn't understand, and I had to try multiple ways to explain it, until something finally clicked and it allowed them to, you know, understand that particular concept and move forward. And I feel like I still do the same thing in my business today with systems and automations and workflows.

So why this is on my mind is I was recently contacted by someone who was thinking about moving their business to Dubado. I have an entirely different kind of conversation with someone if they already have Dubsado versus they're moving to Dubsado.

I see it as my own like personal mission to make sure that if you are looking for a tool, that we find you the best tool for your business. And if you've already got Dubado, I'm not gonna waste my time trying to tell you to switch to something else. Like clearly you have the tool, you like the tool, you are just trying to figure out how to use it most effectively and efficiently inside of your business.

And so that's one kind of conversation. But if you come to me and you currently don't have a CRM or you have one and you're not happy and you're looking at others guys, I don't tell you to just buy Dubsado. Like that's not what kind of strategist I am. I want to give you clarity in your business. And clarity in what the different tools can do for you, so that we make sure that we find a tool that is aligned for your business.

And it's not always Dubsado newsflash. Uh, one of the first things that I ask you when you're thinking of coming to Dubsado is do you have a team? Do you have a team? And what do the different members of your team do?

Because that is one of the deciding factors on whether or not I am going to recommend Dubsado to you for a CRM in your business. It is not a great fit if you have a team and you have multiple people that need to schedule multiple things at the same time. Like there are workarounds. You can use an external calendar, but in terms of like only using the internal tools inside of Dubsado, I just don't think it's a good fit for most people who have teams.

And so when you come to me, And you're asking for clarity, I ask you a lot of questions about your business. Because I wanna make sure that I'm not missing something before I confirm for you, oh, no Dubsado is a great fit for your business, or no, maybe you should look at Sprout Studio. Or no, maybe you should look at 17 hats, I mean, It is one of the things that I pride myself on, while I find that Dubsado is usually the best tool for photographers and filmmakers who value the visual most, it's not a good fit for everyone.

So to bring it back around guys, once again, I'm Colie James. I make complicated shit simple. Can you explain to someone what you do in a single sentence? If you can't, first, maybe you should start with a 30-second elevator pitch.

It just gives you a little bit more room to maybe explain more about what you do. But then I really would encourage you to figure out, if someone told you, oh, tell me what you do in a single sentence, can you do it? If you can't, now's the time to think about that. All right, guys. That's it for this episode.

See you next time.
